Penile Injections Q&A

What are penile injections?

Penile injections help you get and keep erections long enough to have sex. They contain medication that widens the blood vessels in your penis, making your erections firmer and longer-lasting.

Am I a candidate for penile injections?

Request a penile injection consultation at Revive Health Clinic if you have trouble getting or keeping erections. That’s especially true if you have an underlying medical condition, like diabetes or high blood pressure, that causes erectile dysfunction.

After reviewing your medical records, performing a physical exam, and conducting lab testing, the team makes personalized treatment recommendations that align with your needs.

How do penile injections work?

Penile injections are like other injections in that medication is administered directly into your bloodstream with a needle and syringe. Since injecting yourself can be intimidating, your Revive Health Clinic provider shows you how to do it during your first appointment.

Before getting started, your provider gives you:

  • One vial of ED medication
  • One sterile syringe
  • Alcohol wipes
  • A sharps container (for used syringes)

Your provider shows you how to transfer the ED medication to the syringe and provides step-by-step instructions on administering injections.

Once the ED medication is in the syringe, gently hold the tip of your penis in front of you. If you aren’t circumcised, pull your foreskin back first and complete the same steps.

Next, find an area on the side of your penis to administer the injection. Injecting the medication anywhere else (like the front or base of the shaft) can affect blood flow to your penis and prevent an erection.

Once you select an injection site, sterilize your skin with an alcohol wipe. Then, hold your penis in one hand and use your free hand to insert the needle with ED medication into your skin.

After inserting the needle, release the ED medication by pushing down on the plunger. Then, remove the needle and apply gentle but firm pressure to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising.

Your Revive Health Clinic provider gives you several vials of ED medication so you can have sex spontaneously and on your schedule.
